Calibrating your humidor
Requirements:
- See through ziplock bag or plastic container
- Small cap, like a bottle top
- A couple of drops of water
- Salt
Directions:
Place a teaspoon of salt in the cap, add a couple of drops of water, enough to moisten, like wet sand (not a puddle). Put your hygrometer in the bag or plastic container, with the cap, taking care not to spill anything. Seal the bag or container, leave some air in it. Set aside for at least 6 hours in order to stabilise. Read the hygrometer - should read 75%. If it does not use a small screw driver to turn the small screw at the back of the hygrometer until it reads 75%.
If your hygrometer does not have this adjustment then just remember any deviation and adjust accordingly, eg, if it reads 80% then you will need to subtract 5% from any future reading.
